Why is anyone falling for the smoke screen, you ask. Well, because it is ingrained in us at a very early stage of development, 'what to think', and not 'how to think'. Most are usually taught, not to think much at all, and to simply believe what a select few tell them to believe.

Consequently, we've bought the beliefs of others, rather than forming our own. The biggest problem I see with that, is we've invested so much in our 'taught beliefs', we treat it as property which we are also taught to be willing to fight for.

I would have no issue with that, if we're fighting for the property of our own beliefs. But most often we are fighting for the beliefs that were taught and ingrained in us to believe, by others.

Hope I didn't make that too convoluted. .

History actual shows the idea of the slippery slope fallacy to be unfounded. The slippery slope argument is actually quite valid.

During the process of easing divorce laws, those opposing the easing were told that the "slippery slope" scenario they told of (increasing divorce rates, a rise in poverty and single parenthood, the destruction of the family unit) would never happen. I think "oops" doesn't cover the mistake the proponents of easing divorce laws covers it.

Like it or not, NAMBLA is ALREADY gearing up to challenge age of consent laws if sodomite marriage is normalized by the SCOTUS.
