Instead of blaming the party in power, Detroit is a city with a history of corruption, an economic downturn leading to depopulation to the once prosperous city.  While Kwame Kilpatrick was a democrat, he's not just a bad democrat but a bad person in general.  Corruption is not partisan-blind.  In fact, a fair amount of corruption happens in the Republican party *cough* Nixon.  And the decline of Detroit is attributed to the loss of jobs in the last few decades which comes from manufacturing going elsewhere leaving a black population that has really very few good jobs left creating a culture of gangs and "ghetto"ism.  Instead of baiting democrats responsibility, it must be understood that Detroit   is more complex to be generalized as an epitome of failed democratic policies and there are failed democratic policies.  However. it is not the primary cause of the state of Detroit as it is today.  

I live near Detroit and know about its history.

detroit has been run by democrats since the dawn of time.....don't blame the Republicans for detroits failures.......but you could also add the unions into the mix.....their greed helped too
