No... because I wished that from 1999-2002, and we DID !!

We (myself, wife, and two daughters) were living in suburbia - the San Francisco Bay Area - after I'd left active duty Navy and was getting my PhD. The expenses, crime, and traffic was driving us NUTS, not to mention we were living in a Liberal-Elite zone (Palo Alto / Menlo Park / San Carlos).

We took a little cash back in 1995 and had bought 20 acres for building a 'retirement' home on later... well, in 2001 we moved there part-time (living in a trailer), and after my tours in Iraq and Afghanistan (I was put back on active duty after 9-11 attacks), we moved up full-time in 2004.

We built a nice farm-house, and during the lousy home / property market we bought up another 500+ acres of adjoining property here in the foothills / lower Sierra Nevada mountains.

It's WONDERFUL... peace, quiet, no crime, no traffic... we raise cows, sheep, goats, pigs and chickens... we have a vineyard, orchards, and veggie patch that feed us and give us excess to sell.

SURE, I'm going to have to work the ranch until I'm 70 or so to actually afford retirement... but it's not STRESSFUL work or living, so I look forward to it !!

I'm a fan of conformity. I'll go live in the mountains when everyone else starts doing it.
