Learning the basics of skateboarding?
I want to learn the basics of skateboarding to get from one place to another, meaning just learning how to go, turn, and stuff like that. It's just something I want to try because it sounds fun. I have heard that longboards and/or cruiser boards are easier if somebody wants to get from point A to point B and no tricks. How easy is it to learn the simple basics? I'm a girl in college who just wants to get across campus faster because I'm tired of walking. =P
Also, bonus question: Longboards vs skateboards vs cruiser boards. Which one do you recommend to get from point A to point B and is the easiest to maneuver?
or maybe even penny boards? Honestly don't know the difference. =P I don't care about tricks or even speed. Anything that's faster than walking would be fabulous.
I'm only 4'8 and weigh 75 lbs. I'm extremely petite so I really don't take up that much room. xD

If you want to get from point A to B, then the cruiser is definitely what will suit you best.

skateboards are lighter, longboards/cruisers are heavier. Anyways, if you are not planning on doing tricks go for longboarding. Longboarding is very easy, its like riding a shopping cart. As long as you know how to place your feet, shift your balance, maintain your board, and know basic maneuvers for moving, you're good. penny boards are like mini longboards, they have big wheels and short decks. I wouldn't recommend these for a beginner, as it has a shorter area for standing on, and is also very difficult for balance. Skateboards have hard wheels and are very lightweight, which means you will feel every bump. Longboards have soft, big wheels, so its like a car.
