How to fix registry errors on my computer?
I looked at the hints that Yahoo answers suggested for possible answers, but they were all over 4 years old. Does any one out there know of any freeware software that is newer than this. I don't think it is correct that I need to purchase software to fix my OS when the software should do this on it's own.
All 3 of the first responders make good points, and the option the first responder gave me did help some. I am not enough of an expert to decide who is right, so I am going to let the community voters pick best answer.

A registry cleaning tool does not always repair things.
Most cleaners basically just get rid of registry keys that are unused & have no value &/or are not associated with any files anymore .
These do not always repair problems with Active X , COM, Dynamic Link Library files, and many other registry problems
There are Open-source registry tools but most do a couple of these things and not others ,so you may need to download multiple tools that focus on specific areas , or pay for one that does them all.
Most good computer maintenance programs have registry tools as part of the overall package and will scan, find , clean & repair registry problems.
If you have an error message being displayed, you may have better luck looking up that specific error message
As well as post it here..

I would look at CCleaner. It's probably the better of the free ones. Cleaning the registry is never good unless you know what you're doing. A lot of times, reinstalling Windows is simply the better option.
