What do you make of your teams performance in the first 2 rounds?

Your view on the teams performances?

Overall I have been disappointed with West Coasts intensity. The players seem very rusty with alot of fumbles, poor kicking and what seems to be a real lack of effort at times. What has been encouraging though is that our forward are looking dangerous when we do go forward so getting alot of players back in the next 6 weeks should give us a huge boost, I'm just hoping the season isn't over before the reinforcements come in.

Well Matty believe me or not but my side are where I thought they'd be 2-0, I had a look at our draw and said we'd be 3-0 after round 3, so I'm not surprised to be where we are, Collingwood will be a big test but anything could happen, depending if we get over WB this week. Confidence is a great weapon and if the Tigers are fired up, we might cause an upset, 'might', the smart money would be on the Pies but we did get close last year, think it was 21 or something.

But we have to beat WB first, which they could quite easily win, although beat them by around 50 odd points last year, I expect them to come well, and if we continue to kick more behinds than goals every week we'll get done sooner rather than later, you can only do it so many times and get away with the win.

In a nutshell I'm neither happy or mad about our opening 2 rounds, it's about what I expected. I told you all on here we'd beat Carlton as we got to 4 points near the end of the season last year, we beat st kilda, so it continued on I guess.

Like you said Matt, West Coast have been pretty rusty during Rounds 1 and 2. Loosing to the Hawks yesterday was just shattering. 50 Odd points, at Perth? Clearly, with the absence of, Kerr, Naitanui, Rosa, LeCras, Mackenzie, McGuinnity, Nicoski and Wellingham are hurting our side ALOT indeed. That's a total of 8 Senior players missing from our Best 22 Squad.

We need our Reinforcements back anytime soon that's forsure. Hopefully with their return we can be well back on track for our Top 4 hopes. But at this stage, NOTHING is working out for us at all.

Just time and patience is needed...

Carlton} although the Blues put in a very big pre-season with Mick Malthouse at the helm. the player position experimentation's took another twist in round 2 with young Sam Rowe being thrown into the ruck. now whether this was due to the fact that Jolly had been subbed out of the game is not known as yet. but he did do a great job against Quinton Lynch who looked out of place in the ruck. the other move was to have Chris Yarren floating forward more due to the absence of Eddie Betts in this game. which almost proved to be a match winner.

Although the team has not registered a win so far. i can only see a lot more player position experimentation moving on into round 3. as Mick Malthouse continues to tinker with the side in an effort to get maximum return for reward from the players he has at his disposal.

My rating is a solid 7 out of 10. very happy considering the circumstances.

    Cheers.

I think your assessment of the Weagles is pretty fair. Lot of fiddle fumbles, missed targets and half hearted chases. I'm not sure that's all a depth thing, I think the attitude needs a re-think. It could be rustiness perhaps and they have had two very high quality opponents but the attitude they're showing isn't that of a premiership side ... yet.

Cats? Well you don't have to be a rocket scientist to see that at their best they're unstoppable, but gee ... in between there are a lot of fiddle fumbles, missed targets and half-hearted chases :-) I think they might be starting the game each looking around for someone else to lead them, but it can't keep happening like that. I think there'll be some serious soul-searching this week. Hopefully they'll come out with some first-quarter attitude against the Blues. They'll need to because they won't out run their small brigade like they did with the Hawks.

Like you we've had two quality opponents, the difference has been we've snuck in for the wins.

  • Definitely more skilled, disciplined and a better game plan. We got Hinkley who's not gonna take any sh!t and has the respect of the players, which is something that was severely lacking with Matthew Primus coaching.

We're starting to bring through some quality players, we got Hartlett, Boak, Brad Ebert, Cornes, Schulz, Broadbent, Westhoff, Wingard and boom recruits like Monfries, Wines, Mitchell and Neade. Yes we've only played Melbourne and GWS and playing Adelaide this week will be a very good challenge for us, one I feel we're up to.

We've still got guys like Cassisi, Gray, Butcher and Brett Ebert to come back from injury and look at how well we've played. We've gained a lot more depth in our team for this season and it's going to be harder than usual to get a game.

I'm happy enough, but think Hawthorn needs to learn to play 4 good quarters against quality sides not just play 1/2 or 3/4 of the match well and go to sleep the remainder like happened against Geelong and also happened a bit in the middle of the game against West Coast.

Pleased, and very much looking forward to the next 3 rounds.

We certainly seem to have improved from last season, and I feel like we are getting a more even contribution. Hopefully they can keep up the good form and a decent climb up the ladder should be the result. At the very least, it looks like we will pass Melbourne.

Hard to asses the Essendon so far, they got away with an underdone Adelaide then smashed the red and blue witches hats last week, Fremantle on Friday night will be a tough ask and give us a much better idea about how the Bombers are travelling

Improved performance but still a way to go to get back to last years standards.

Need to stop giving away silly frees and 50 mtre penalties.

Still need to improve our tackling.

    Disposal need to improve.

Goal kicking is still a worry.
