Can anyone give me a basic overview of an MC9090 WM scanner?

I work at a company where IT works very hard at avoiding work, so I have to do this on my own. I have serial numbered, barcoded inventory I am wanting to scan. I happen to have a box of MC9090's with Windows Mobile that another plant dumped on us that have been gathering dust for over a year. I want to use those MC9090's to scan my barcodes rather than manually writing S/N's down on count sheets out in the plant. We have wifi in the offices but not all of the plant so part of this requires not being connected.

I don't have a high level picture of how these work, and everything on google is a sales pitch. The most basic solution here is make a flat file of S/N's on the device and extract to a PC to manipulate manually. We are talking 2,000 records on a bad day. That's all I really need to do. Is that possible with this device, and is there a canned program or can I write some simple code to acheive it?

Getting an asset request approved is harder than getting IT to work, so please no answers telling me to get something else. Either I cobble this together or I do nothing.

    sorry, i don't know.

but you can try to do it

Have you looked at Motorola's sample applications? I found the sample applications included with the EMDK very instructive when learning this myself. They have some very basic samples that make it pretty obvious the handful of lines of code that are needed to access the barcode scanner hardware.
