  • Can anyone give me a basic overview of an MC9090 WM scanner?

I work at a company where IT works very hard at avoiding work, so I have to do this on my own. I have serial numbered, barcoded inventory I am wanting to scan. I happen to have a box of MC9090's with Windows Mobile that another plant dumped on us that have been gathering dust for over a year. I want to use those MC9090's to scan my barcodes rather than manually writing S/N's down on count sheets out in the plant. We have wifi in the offices but not all of the plant so part of this requires not being connected.

I don't have a high level picture of how these work, and everything on google is a sales pitch. The most basic solution here is make a flat file of S/N's on the device and extract to a PC to manipulate manually. We are talking 2,000 records on a bad day. That's all I really need to do. Is that possible with this device, and is there a canned program or can I write some simple code to acheive it?

Getting an asset request approved is harder than getting IT to work, so please no answers telling me to get something else. Either I cobble this together or I do nothing.

  • Is there anything that can be done to use a Sprint smartphone on AT&T?

I know there are two types of networks among the carriers, and sim cards v MicroSD, so different handsets. Is there anyway, by rooting or whatnot, to take a Samsung Epic 4G I had with Sprint and activate it on AT&T?

No smartass answers please, I googled the subject and thats all I saw. My intent is to give this phone to a friend who is on AT&T (only carrier at his house) who has never had a smartphone and doesn't want to commit all the money to buying a handset and 2yr high dollar contract without knowing if he will get use out of it. I've got a brand new warranty replacement Epic 4G I'm not using (I upgraded) and would rather give it away to a friend than sell it.

  • Painting fork sliders - black or color coat?

I'm getting ready to paint my sliders on a frame off build. I'm blacking everything except the tins out with high temp paint, so everything black (frame, motor, brakes, etc) will be the same color - no contrast.

The fender will be color coat, and there is a front fairing that will be color coat. The wheel and brake caliper will be black.

My question - should I paint the fork sliders in color or also go black? For reference, its a 79 KZ1000 with a Vetter fairing and hardbags, no trunk.

  • Are there any issues painting carbs?

I'm working on a frame off resto. I'm blacking out the whole bike except for the tins in a single stage, epoxy, high temp satin black. So heat is not an issue and no need to prime (though I am on the frame and small parts) and won't be clearing. I've never seen carbs painted, and I would assume heat retention isn't an issue if its engine paint that causes no problems w the engine. But its the never seeing it done part that has me asking before I maybe ruin an expensive rack of inline 4 carbs

Also it would be great if I could find black pod filters. I don't want style to detract from function, but it would look good.

  • Anyone use aircraft remover on bike parts before?

I brushed some aircraft remover on the frame and fender, but I started a little too late and lost track of time (fumes will do that to you). I kind of want to stop and pick back up after work tomorrow. Anyone ever leave this stuff overnight? Is t safe or will I get corrossion/pitting?

  • Is anyone else getting annoyed at answering questions correctly, and then they ask again 15 minutes later?

Not the chain snapping guy, that was actually kind of funny. I do include the spark plug gap question from tonight, it happens several times daily. Why should we waste our time giving you the correct answer if you just ignore it anyway? Maybe we should answer all second questions like this with answers that will ruin your bike, how would you people like that hmmmm?
