    f(x) = 9x

    x1 = 0:

    f(x1) = 9(0)

    f(x1) = 0

    x2 = 5:

    f(x2) = 9(5)

    f(x2) = 45

    Ave. Rate of Change = m

    m = [f(x2) - f(x1)] / (x2 - x1):

    m = (45 - 0) / (5 - 0)

    m = 45 / 5

    m = 9

    Ave. Rate of Change = 9
