How long does it take to transfer private plates off a car?
I brought a Mini at the weekend from a proper Mini garage, originally I was meant to be picking it up today but the previous owner had a private plate on it that they need to transfer them off and put the originals back on before I can collect it..
They called to tell me this Monday and said it can take up to 6 weeks to do this but its normally alot quicker :O
Has anyone else ever done this and if so how long did it take?
It was a part exchange for a new Mini, I brought it direct from a proper Mini dealer but because it only got part exchanged on Saturday they plates had still not been transferred.. I don't think there are any problems with the car thought.. its only 18 months old and only done 7000miles..
Just wish they would hurry up! Want to be able to pick it up already!!

DVLA always quote "up to 6 weeks", but it is usually about a week, based on my experience, to get the tax disc changed which allows the car to display its new number.
It will take an extra week to get the V5c registration through, but if the dealer can get the change of keeper to be processed at the same time that shouldn't be an issue.
