Is it possible I have diabetes type 2? points for best answer, PLEASE HELP:(:(?
I'm a 15 year old girl, I'm so worried, over the years I've not had a healthy diet, I eat more sugary foods that healthy foods. I have at LEAST one big chocolate bar a day, I know that's disgusting but I've slipped into bad habits:'( Thing is I'd say I'm quite skinny/slim, everyone always complements my figure and says they'd like to have it. I do exercise regularly, every night I walk the dogs for an hour and after that I go back out and jog for 30-45 minutes, plus I go horse riding once a week. I use to always have problems breathing when I did exercise but my stamina has gone up now and I'm quite good. I do get stitches very easily though:( Anyway, recently I've been getting very very thirsty which I thought was odd because I drink around 8-9 glasses of water a day, plus a few cups of tea, but recently I've found I'm having to have around 15-16 cups of water a day, plus I'm getting very light headed and having headaches all the time. I've been urinating much more than normally as well which is probably due to drinking so much, anyway I googled about being thirsty all the time and it came up with lots of pages about type 2 diabetes which I thought might be possible because of the amount of sugar I consume? It came up with other symptoms and causes too which I can relate to, it said if you have any relatives that have type 2 diabetes you're more likely to get it, and my nan and my uncle both have it-they're both skinny too and eat lots of sugar like me. It also said something about your eyes going blurry is a possible symptom and I've realised my eyes have been constantly un-focusing/blurring over the past few months, I have perfect eye sight, I can read small writing from very far away and can see long into distances, I went to the optitions (before my eyes started blurring) and they said my eye sight was perfect but recently, my eyes uncontrollably keep focusing and focusing similar to what a camera does. I'm starting to get worried now and would just like to know what's happening, if it's not to do with diabetes I have a few questions:
1.) what's happening to my eyes?
2.) why do I keep dehydrating and being thirsty all the time?
3.) why am I getting headaches and feeling light headed?
4.) how can I stop my bad eating habits (it's so hard)
5.) should I check all this out with a gp?
and any further information you could help me with? I know this is a long question so thankyou so much if you've read all of it, and thankyou if you're willing to answer and help me!

Being thirsty all the time, drinking and peeing a lot, are classic symptoms of diabetes. But the actual symptoms are different for everyone. Blurring of vision is another classic symptom. Light-headedness could be anything.
If you know someone who has diabetes, that person will probably have a glucomter, a gizmo that measures blood sugar, and would probably be happy to test you. You test first thing in the morning before breakfast ('fasting') or 2-3 hrs after a meal ('post-prandial'). If you don't have elevated blood sugar, you don't have diabetes. If you do, then you should go to a doctor, because there are other things that can cause all those symptoms so a doctor will order a whole series of tests to eliminate these other things.
You control your blood sugar through diet and exercise. It sounds like you have the exercise thing going pretty good, but you should clean up your diet whether or not you have diabetes because you might have it someday if you don't now.
Oh, the eye-focussing thing. When you have really high blood sugar, way out of control, the sugar goes all through your body. It comes out in your sweat and tears and saliva and urine. It changes the refractive index of the vitreous, the jelly inside your eyeballs, so your eyes focus differently. For many people this is the first sign they have diabetes. So yes, that's another symptom.
If you do have diabetes, you want to know sooner rather than later, because it can do some serious damage to your body if left uncontrolled.

It's fine to look stuff up on the internet and to even get advice but don't rely solely on this. I have Type II diabetes, so I know how serious it is. I'd recommend you first talk with your parents, tell them what you found and that you are worried. Ask them to schedule an appointment with your doctor. The symptoms you describe could be diabetes or could be something else or perhaps nothing serious at all. I know that's not the answer you wanted but thats why its important to go to the doctor so you get an accurate diagnosis if there is one to be made. I strongly urge you to have a fasting blood glucose test with your doctor. You simply fast overnight (you can drink water as its good to be hydrated) and they will draw some blood. If you have two of these tests with readings above 126 it confirms a diagnosis of diabetes.
Sugar doesn't CAUSE diabetes - it just doesn't help it. Your pancreas either not producing insulin (Type I) or not producing enough / body not utilizing it correctly (Type II) is the cause.
