The City of Bones confusion?
I was reading The City of Bones by Cassandra Clare and I absolutely love it, but I have a couple of questions.
1. What are the forsaken?
2. What exactly is the clave and the convenant?
3. What is Luke??
4. What do umm "the bad people" want with Clary's mom? I think it's something about the Mortal Cup, but why?
5. Um, who exactly are the "bad people" after Clary's mom, Jocelyn?
6. Valentine isn't dead like Hodge said? (If it tells me later don't spoil it)
5. Why did they go to Luke asking for Clary as well? What do they want with her?
6. What's the brotherhood?
Okay, this question more directed to the people that own the book because I'm on page 133 and I don't want to be spoiled for anything that happens after the page I'm on.
So, if one of my questions is answered soon or later on more clearly, just tell me that instead of spoiling it for me. But try to answer the most you can without spoiling the rest of the book

Most of these things are explained, but I can give you general background info. on some things...
1. Forsaken are basically mundanes who've been Marked. The Marks (or, Runes) literally turn them insane, because they aren't Shadowhunters. They go wild and stuff and have to be killed (they die by themselves pretty quickly anyway). You do meet a few of them throughout the series.
2. Clave: Basically, the Shadowhunter council. Sort of like the government.
Covenent: The oath they swear to the Clave when they become Shadowhunters.
3. Explained later.
4. Explained later.
5. Explained later.
6. Explained later.
5. (you've got 5 and 6 twice) Explained later.
6. Silent Brothers...fancy Shadowhunters. You understand them as you meet them more.
Hope that helps.
EDIT:
7. You're born into it...more details are explained at some point.

1. Forsaken are warriors that have been transformed from mundane/humans by applying runes to them. Mundane humans can't handle them so they go insane. Forsaken warriors can come in different forms. Forsaken warriors cannot be returned to humans and have no knowledge of their previous existence.
2.The Clave is the governing body in the Shadow World. Shadowhunters who are of age and choose to act as demon hunters are considered members, unless they choose to renounce their membership of sorts. It is led by a Council, the Inquisitor, and the Consul. They meet in the Gard at Alicante, Idris. Although Shadowhunters are all welcome to the meeting, some Shadowhutners choose not to attend. The Council makes the law of the Clave, known as the Covenant. The Council also signs the Accords. Originally this council held only Shadowhunters.
3. You find out near the end of the book
4. When "the bad guys" found out that Jocelyn stole the Mortal Cup, and now they are out to get it back so the lead "bad guy" can have to create an army.
5. You find out soon
6. Tells you later
5(2). It would spoil the book
6(2). the Silent Brothers-are a powerful group of all male Shadowhunters. To strengthen their minds, they have taken upon themselves the most powerful of runes known to Shadowhunters. However, the process mutilates their appearance. They are among the most feared and dangerous Shadowhunters. They are so powerful that they even scare other Shadowhunters.
7. It is just in your blood

I think you should just finish the book before you start asking questions. In most books, the author likes to keep things mysterious for a little while before she reveals them. So just keep reading. The book will answer your questions soon enough. =P If you were told the answers now it would ruin any suspense or mystery in the book.
