What will happen to performance if a torque converter is not compleatly tight?

My uncle said it has to be compleatly tight or it'll rattle and act as if there is no power. I'm just curious

I had this issue with my chevy 350. I ended up having only 1 bolt tight on the torque converter. It made a hell of an awful tapping noise, almost sounds like the engine has a very loud knock. It could damage the torque converter or bend the flywheel. You probably wont notice much on performance, it will just break on you and you will have a nice expensive fix.
