It's designed to only adjust the shoulder straps, not the bottom one.

    Two things I wonder about:

    1. Are you sure you don't just need to take out the newborn insert? That creates oodles of space. My son is 7 months old, about as big as a 9 month old, and still fits fine. But around 3-4 months we needed to take out the newborn insert.

    2. Since it's been used: are you sure the shoulder straps are threaded through the right holes for your baby? There are different positions. The straps should come from shoulder height or a little below, NOT above the shoulders.

I don't completely understand your question, but will try to answer...

EDIT: If there is another buckle slot, look at the bottom of the car seat. You should see a plate there. Thread the plate up and take the crotch strap, then thread the crotch strap to the outer most position. This should make it easier to buckle baby. And the other responder is correct, when rear facing, the harness straps should be coming from at or slightly above the child's shoulders. (Do not confuse this with forward facing; the harness straps should be coming from at or slightly above the child's shoulders).

To adjust the harness slots by the child's shoulders, you will need to take the splitter plate off the back of the seat, take out the shoulder straps in the front and thread them to a higher slot; reattach the harness to the splitter plate.

Are you saying that the crotch strap (between the baby's legs) is hard to buckle because it is short? I'm not familiar with this seat you are talking about, but some crotch straps are short. It helps to loosen the harness each and every time while putting your baby in and out. Some car seats have the harness loosen in the front. You can loosen the harness by pushing a tab in the front of the car seat. This tab should be by your baby's feet. Push on it and keep pushing while you are pulling the harness out. To tighten the harness, pull the strap by the tab. Here is a video that shows what I mean: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MvzPZfba4ys

If your question is about the harness being too short to buckle, then there might be another harness loop on the back of the car seat by the splitter plate. The splitter plate is a metal plate that the harness is attached to. Car seat manufacturers make the harness short so that it is easier to adjust the harness on a small baby.

For example, here is a picture of the back of a car seat: http://www.car-seat.org/showpost.php?p=1064039&pos...

The splitter plate is shown. This picture shows that the car seat is on the longest loop. you can see the harness has two rectangles. Your infant car seat may be on one of the upper harness loops. (I'm trying to be detailed so that we are on the same page).

I would get a brand new car seat right away as soon as possible- this is because if your car seat is used, it could have been in a crash. If the seat has been in a crash and the car seat was weakened, if your child was in a crash, the harness straps can rip from the shell ejecting your baby. I would recommend the Safety 1st Guide 65- it may cost 140 CDN from a ToysRUs, but will last until your child is about age 5 to 6. The Cosco Scenera will last until your child is about age 3 with the harness; it costs about $100 CDN. You can order from amazon- just remember to order from Canadian amazon as anything from the United States is illegal: http://www.amazon.ca/

If I didn't answer your question, your best bet is to post your question onto this website: http://www.car-seat.org/

This website is a forum for parents to ask questions about keeping their children safe in the car. A child passenger safety technician will answer your question for you. You don't even need to register to post a question. It helps if you post a picture of your car seat from the back and from the front. You could also post a picture of your child in the seat. Also, state that you are from Canada.

there's a small clip that is going around the straps at chest height, to hold them mutually so little hands can't get away. my son in no way did that. uncertain if it became him or the seat. we had britaxes for him. he became many times too busy eating, eating, taking part in or looking out the living house windows. i may well be concerned if the straps do loosen, they gained't carry him properly in an twist of destiny. verify he's no longer wriggling his bum forwards, and slouching interior the seat. which will make his shoulders decrease and the straps look looser. if he has discovered he can get some freedom by ability of wriggling, he will probable save attempting to do it.
