At what point does an Avocado turn into guacamole?

Just curious. Is it when it's mashed or after all the ingredients are added? Many ppl slice an avocado season it and eat it in a sandwich. I like to season it and mash it up and spread it on my sandwich. But I don't add the tomatoes or onions. Is it considered guacamole?

Actually the original pre-Columbian ancient Mexican guacamole (called āhuacamolli) was simply mashed with salt. the other seasonings came later. So your spread is indeed guacamole.

Traditionally gaucamole is simply crushed avocado with salt. Of course it's great with other seasonings.

Besides, if you like it that way, who cares what you call it? I mash it with blue cheese or feta and spread it on sandwiches : )

No. It's just a mashed avocado until you add onion, lime juice, salt, garlic.], etc.

When you mix in the salsa.

Merely smashing it or slicing it doesn't make it guacamole.
