It is a book set on another world, another time, with humans or aliens that may be warning us of problems on our own world now.

The best Science Fiction is about people. Once we accept the technology, we want to know what is happening to the people.

Good sci fi isn't really about the future its about what's happening right now. "Ghost in the shell" on the surface the cyborg characters talk about how much of their body is artificial but the real message is about how training education and media make up parts of our minds 'how much of your mind is you'.
"Dune" the spice is oil and iraqis is the middle east the prison planet is the poor from which hardened soldiers are recruited.
