Can I be sacked for being late a handful of times? UK?

I work in a tradeshop, and have been late a handful of times since Jan 13.

I always tell my manager why I was late and apologize

and he ALWAYS says "no worries, it's fine"

But I have just been told I'm having a disciplinary meeting about my lateness and I could be sacked!

I just need to know if I can be sacked because I've never had a verbal or written warning.

    You can't just sack people in the UK but you need to be careful.

    I'm not sure about the UK, but on the us most employees hire you at will, and they can fire you at will too.
