Set up new security password on wifi and now laptop won't connect?
I have a wireless Belkin router and have just set up WPA2 Security but now I can't connect to my laptop (Dell Inspiron 1525). The connection worked before security was set up. I can connect wifi with iPhone and iPad using the new password though so it's not the router. My laptop is a few years old. Should I have set up WEP Security?
I don't get the opportunity to type my password. It shows my router but won't let me connect. It says something about adapter not found. I'm at work at moment so can't remember exact wording - apologies.
Thank you for your replies. I will try your suggestion and expect I will go to WEP security as the other option sounded quite technical for me!
p.s not sure if I'm replying in the right space. Couldn't work out where to reply. Sorry!

I know exactly the problem. I dealt with it numerous times when I used to be an in home tech. The problem is the drivers for the WiFi card need to be updated. The problem though is that you won't find updated drivers on dells website. You have to find them directly from the maker of the WiFi card.
If you want to go through the steps to do that first right click on (My) Computer. Click manage. Click device manager. Click network adapters.
Find the WiFi card. It should have a model number. Google that model + driver. Try to find a new driver.
If that seems too daunting a task, just drop the security of the router to WEP

Don't go WEP! WEP is like having no security at all. Unplug everything (computer, modem, router, etc.). Wait 2 or 3 minutes, plug it all back in and turn the computer back on.

When you change the encryption on the router then for some reason the operating system doesn't recognize the change, it still tries to connect using WEP encryption and it fails. All you need to do is go over to the wireless network profiles saved on the computer, edit the profile of your network and change the encryption settings to WPA2. On Windows its done by right clicking your network from the available networks menu, then click properties and change "Security type" to WPA2. You should never ever use WEP encryption! here's is link that explains more about wireless network security.

The laptop has recorded the previous setting for this connection. You either have to delete this connection, and give it the new connection information, or you select this connection, select the advanced tab or properties, and change the password and connection type. I will assume you have Windows XP:

WEP is not as secure. WPA is superior. Please update your older machine (if it is not already), and it is all downhill from there.
