What is a cycle hold?

It's been almost 12 weeks since my tax return was accepted by the IRS and I still have not received my money so I called them today. After a lot of run around the lady finally said that it could be up to 4 weeks longer because it's on a "cycle hold". What the hell is a cycle hold? She wouldn't elaborate.

cycle hold and elaborate.from us here on website about what the IRS and this could really mean in your situation that you are now in at this time of the 2013 tax filing season.

Go to the www.irs.gov website and use the search box for Publication 2043

    www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p2043en.pdf

    Refund Status Results

Return Received Refund Approved Refund Sent OUT to FMS to your account holder that you used for this purpose for DD or mail.

    www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p2043en.pdf

    Caution,

Don’t count on getting your refund by a certain date to make major purchases or pay other financial obligations. Even though the IRS issues most refunds in less than 21 days, it’s possible your tax return may require additional review and take longer.

Can take 1 to 5 days from your account holder that was used for this purpose so after the send out date your next contact about your REFUND amount should then be your account holder for more information about your REFUND.

Hope that you find the above enclosed information useful. 04/16/2013

Someone at the IRS decided they wanted more time to review your tax return (say, to see if your W-2 posts and the numbers match the return). They put in a hold to keep the refund from being scheduled to go out.

A cycle is one week, but the 4 weeks or more is more accurate.
