What to look at when choosing new chainsaw?
What are the signs of a chainsaw that has problems, also what brands are the best and which ones should be avoided? Thanks!

Yes, Stihl is the top brand. I have run a MS 250 for years have had good results. If you are looking at a saw only for occasional use, I would look at Echo. They are a little less expensive but still a good quality saw. I'd stay away from Homelite, Pouplan ect.

All the tree services have Stihl. I guess Husqvarna has also its fans.
If you have the money go with a Stihl. As to what kind depends on the kind of work you will do mostly, the diameter of trees and branches you want to saw through and also how often you use it If you us it daily you want a professional model. If you use it only twice a year around the home use a relatively cheap electric chain saw is probably the more economical solution.
The most important thing to consider is your use.
I know a tree climber who does not recommend buying used chain saws because a lot are beat up.
