How to get money back that someone owes me?
Currently I'm in a situation where someone owes me a little under $1,000 USD and has signed a contract saying that they will send me payments of $250 by the 15th of every month until the full payment is met.
However, this month I have received no payment despite them still owing the $1,000 and am wondering what actions are possible should the need arise for legal action.
I've contacted them in an attempt to get a response for the late/missing payment but have yet to hear back and want to see what other options may be available. As of right now both of us live in the United States, though we do live in different states. I have heard that Small Claims Courts are the way to go for this to get my money back but I've also heard that Collection Agencies are much cheaper and just as effective.
What would likely be the best method should I have to rely on these methods to get my money back and would it be worth it? (Ex: Having to pay $1,100 in court fees to get back $1,000 would not be worth it.)
I will likely give them more room on this matter than I should as there is a lot more problems this particular person has been causing that I won't go into for the sake of this question. Which is why my first recourse this time is to simply get the law involved and get it taken care of. Though sadly I am naive as to the workings of these matters.

I would start by giving a little leeway towards the person that owes.
Contact them, ask their intentions, and if unsatisfied, then file with small claims.
You have a contract that was breached, and the agreement broken.
And if it has to go to court, of which you will Win, they will also owe court costs.
The sheriff having to deliver costs, and the court judge to hear the case.

HUH? You have heard WRONG it cost you about 15-75 ish to file in small claims and a collection agency will take up to 50% of the monies.

i might want to call it a lesson realized and under no circumstances supply issues to anybody except they have funds properly THEN. i might want to easily ask, or say we truly desire that fifty you borrowed because tax time is arising and also you want the money. otherwise evaluate this a stupid mistake and under no circumstances enable it ensue back. per chance merely ignore about it and in the adventure that they supply it to you they do, if no longer your loss. That change right into a foul call giving a sons chum funds, or anybody from outdoors your spouse and youngsters. do merely not do it back, and that i doubt she will be in a position of EVER pay you for the garments, thats a GIVEN! good success i do not recognize them even with the indisputable fact that it oftentimes finally ends up being uncomfortable. Ask for the BOW decrease back! Afterall you obtain it. they could have it decrease back even as they pay you for it, or enable it flow and enable or not that's a lesson realized.
