Is 750w PSU enough for this upgrade?
Hi. So I'm looking to do several upgrades to my current computer setup in the very near future and I'm wondering if my 750w OCZ Fatal1ty can handle this load. (I hope so because I just bought it and it wasn't cheap). I'm thinking it will, but I could use another opinion or two. Here's what I plan to have in my setup by the time I'm done:
AMD PhenomII x6 1090t CPU
ASUS Sabertooth 990fx R2.0 mobo
Dual ASUS HD7870 GPU in CrossfireX (yes I have enough pci-e power connections)
OCZ 120GB SataIII SSD
WD 1TB SataIII HDD
WD 2TB SataIII HDD
Sata Blu-ray drive and dvd+-rw drive
I'm not worried about having enough cables. Just concerned about the wattage. I work IT for a living and have a lot of technical knowledge, so no need to dumb down your answer. Thanks for your input!

hi mate
yes, thats fine and the 750w OCZ Fatal1ty is actually a extrememly stable and reliable psu ... and even though 2 x HD7870,s in crossfire would make many go out and buy a 1000w psu combined with your other components it only uses 513w( calculated using the thermaltake psu calculator at http://www.thermaltake.outervision.com/Power ) ... that's also allowing for 4 x memory dimms (you didn't state how many you had so I went with the max most use ) and also 3 x 120mm fans
so as you can see even with two fairly high end gpu,s and 2 x hard drive and optical drives you could in theory get away with just 600w .. however with yours being a trusted and reliable 700w psu you still have nearly 200w left to play with !
another factor to consider ( which many seem to forget ) is the ampage, especially on the all important +12v rail(s) ... however your 750w OCZ Fatal1ty has quad +12v rails with a total combined of 54A ... that's more than enough for your components and is well above the recommended for 2 x HD7870,s in crossfire ( which is 45A )
finally the connectors .... and the HD7870 requires a single 6pin pci-e power connector,so 2 x 6pin are required for crossfire ,and since the 750w OCZ Fatal1ty has 4 x 6+2-pin connectors you still have two spare ....
in summary your psu meets all the requirements for running 2 x HD7870,s in crossfire, and with a recommended wattage of 513w your 750w OCZ Fatal1ty is well within this .... and the ampage is also ok
I hope this helps ..any questions let me know
good luck mate !
