How is Joe Namath in the Hall of Fame?
It's absolutely ridiculous that Joe Namath is in the Hall of Fame it makes no sense. The guys stats are average at best he has 27,663 yards his td/int ratio is **** its 173-220 and his passer rating is 65.5. How is this guy in the Hall of Fame instead of other QB's that actually deserve it like Phil Simms, Boomer Esiason & Ken Stabler.

Won the Jets a Superbowl.
Who else would, could, or even want to be on the Jets?

I think Joe Namath is overrated. His stats are very mediocre. However his impact is what puts him in the Hall Of Fame. He was the bold and brash quarterback who guarenteed victory over the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl 3. The Jets did win 16-7. It was one of the greatest upsets in Pro Football history. Namath was the first guy to pass for 4000 yards in a season 4007. He also earned 400 thousnad dollars as a rookie.

While I agree with you that Namath is overrated, and he is in the hall primarily for being arrogant enough to make a certain famous prediction, realize that comparing stats of a pre-1978 QB to a post 1978 QB is simply unfair.
I would argue that comparing QB numbers between ANY players whose careers did not overlap is bad statistics. Football is ALWAYS changing. Rules, strategy, player size and speed. This game is always changing. It's not like baseball where eras are largely comparable excepting the deadball era and steroid era.
But that effect is MUCH stronger if you cross 1978 when the offensive holding and defensive pass interference rules changed so dramatically. To a lesser extent the same is true of 2003 because of the Ty Law rule...which wasn't actually a rule change, just the NFL getting MUCH more vigilant about enforcement.

First passer to hit 4000 yards (in a 14 game season I think), Super Bowl winner, and the quickest release of his day. Had surgery techniques included arthroscopy in those days, he'd have been even more productive and had a longer career. You're just looking at stats. He was a winner on a team with really only average talent.

Based on his performance in football during his NFL career, I believe that Joe Namath rightfully EARNED his induction to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

He led a huge underdog, New York Jets, to one of the biggest upsets in Super Bowl history... It completely changed the face of the NFL and led to the merging of the AFL and the NFL....

Because he won the Jets their first and only Super Bowl.

Pretty much just because he guaranteed a Super Bowl victory and was able to get it. That's about it

He was better than any of the guys you mentioned. All you are doing is copying and pasting a bunch of numbers that you got from a website like database-football.com.
Why don't you judge his mechanics? Or his accuracy? You can't if you didn't watch him play.
