What effect to fire have on Nephrite? (Jade)?

I'm studying the history of the Imperial Jade Seal (Heirloom Seal of the Realm) of China to try and see what could've happened to it (Assuming it ever existed at all) and one of the main theories is that it was lost when one emperor died of self-immolation but my question is what effect fire would have on it? Would it be able to destroy it or would it simply have been burnt?

    Fire will change the colour of jade usully to a dirty brown colour. It also has a tendancy to crack the jade.
