What is a good 2-player strategy game?

I mean a board game played on a tabletop. Who has some ideas?

War in the east is a in depth, if somewhat complex, game.

Look for other things from the same people, you can find games that should fit your wanted level of complexity.

If you want something different maybe try SmallWorld, it's kinda like Risk but less random luck and a much better mechanic for the losing side(s) to get a chance and/or get revenge.

Chess! I have always loved chess and I personally enjoy seeing how a person plays in the first couple moves to then build a strategy against them. Plus it takes a lot of thought and planning so Strategy wise-PERFECT :D

May I recommend Jambi and Lost Cites? Both are published by Rio Grande Games. Here is a list of two-player games: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/16912/just-u...

If you're talking war games, then the other answers (Risk and Stratego) are good answers.

If you're talking about games that make you think and make decisions about what you do, the classic, of course, is Chess. For me, that makes me think TOO hard. My favorite is Backgammon, followed by Cribbage.

    Risk

Axis and Allies (more expensive, but worth it)

I love both of these games! Axis and Allies is a bit confusing and expensive, but every game is different. Risk can play up to 4. Axis and Allies can also play up to 4, but both are fun to play with two people.

Absolute best is Stratego. Super classic and fun game that is built around strategy (it's even in the name!).

Chess is the best, many even considered it a sport. Thousand of books have been written about chess. If you will learn more about it you will love it, chess is great.
