Do conservatives support background checks?

No I don't think so. most conservations think its another violation of second amendment rights. In reality its so gun dealers can be checked for gun running, munitions manufacturers can be kept in check, those having undisclosed mental, gang and behavioral problems will pop up on the radar and stopped. Most conservatives avoid these issue and say...what about laws on the books now or its a race issue or criminals don't buy guns legally...all of those are horseshit evasions.

You are being disingenuous in regards to the second response.

Do background checks work? Yes. When procedures are followed.

Do speed limits work? Yes. When people obey the signs.

It's all in what you mean by "work". The fairer question is worded thusly:

Will it stop a criminal or mentally ill person from purchasing a gun legally? Yes, it will.

That's all it does. There is no other claim it can make.

However, that's just like the claim that a speed limit stops me from exceeding a particular speed * legally *. It does not stop me from speeding.

As a conservative, I can tell you that I support background checks. And I would have no problem with expanding the questions to determine not only if the gun buyer is clean, but the people in his household too. In the case of Sandy Hook, the guns were owned by a woman who would have otherwise passed a background check. And the guns were stolen by her insane son.

HOWEVER......

Criminals don't walk into gun stores and wait 10 days for a background check. When was the last time you saw a pack of gangbangers filling out forms in a gun store? So in the end it might be harder for law abiding citizens to arm themselves, but criminals will have access to firearms the same way they do now. Something to think about.....

And they do not even know that it is, in fact, entirely legal to buy guns without a background check via Internet or at gun shows. The existing legislation allows registered criminals, illegal aliens and mentally imbalanced people to legally buy guns, so there is a clear need to close loopholes. Unfortunately, many Americans are misinformed and cannot be convinced, because they do not trust the source that tells them the truth.

Who is recording what information, about whom, and who has access to it, under what circumstances, when.

Then, I will let you know. What is this magic computer in the sky that a gun seller is supposed to "log on to" and check "what"

Where I live, the Chief of Police in your municipality does the background check and he uses what ever means he wants before he issues you a gun permit to own a gun. I am told he calls various local hospitals and checks various state records and has some agreements with neighboring states to gain access to some information.

If you don't have a permit to own a gun in my state, then that gun is illegal in your possession, in your home, no matter how you obtained it.

There ARE background checks today. The garbage amendment they tried to pass was full of confusing language and holes.

So my question to you gun grabbers is as follows: "Why do you NOT REALLY want to stop gun violence but putting forth real legislation that would stop criminals and the mentally ill from getting guns?"

No. A total waste of time. Even the Boston Bombers were viewed as nice guys and smart. What would that prove? I have seen interviews in prison of serial killers. And many were nice and personable. It is just the fact that they have zero feelings about killing. I remember one question to a man about what he thought when he killed, he just said "it was interesting." He even smiled.

You may be looking for some wild psychotic profile that points to someone who will do mass harm. But that will rarely be the case.

If weapons have been ever banned than merely the undesirable adult men might have them..Criminals choose unarmed victims!! Having a gun won't help each and all of the time yet being defenseless won't in any respect help.. Calling 911 and asking the undesirable guy to attend isn't a achievable selection. extra helpful to have a gun and not prefer it than to prefer it and not have it!!! I support background check for naturalization and citizenship. But liberals do not support background checks and favor illegal amnesty.
