Out of focus lights help?

How should I set it up so it looks like it does in my viewfinder?
I think I found the problem, looking at the exif data I saw the aperture was f-36 for some reason. I had it on shutter priority so I didnt notice what it said on the camera. Is this the problem?

The first one was shot with a 300mm lens in what is probably it's widest aperture. What did you use for yours?

First, they are taken with a different focal length and second, ther's no way to autofocus night scenes like those
