I just bought an I-MAC,I cannot get it to accept any downloads from web or disc.?
I have tried Flash player, Windows for MAC nothing gets installed it all goes to the trash can. What I am I doing wrong. While I have used MACs in the past I have never set up one for my personal use.

Without a description of what you are doing it is impossible to say what you are doing wrong. Normally to download and install the Flash player, for example, you go here...
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
...and click on the Download Now button and it will be saved to your Downloads folder as a disk image (.dmg). Double click the disk image file and it will open to reveal the Flash Player installer. Double click the installer and it will install. Once it has finished you can Eject the .dmg file and move it to the Trash ready for deletion.
