Is there any way to recover data?
I have a HP Pavilion Dv6 laptop and started having problems with it (froze up, then would not start back up - froze on "Starting Windows")
I ran a diagnostic and found that, for the second time in just over a year, the hard disk is screwed (error 303).
Is there any way to recover data from the drive/laptop?

When was the last time you ran chkdsk -f -r and did a total hard drive defrag.
To recover or get Data off the Hard drive, down load and burn a Linux LiveCD to a disk and boot the computer with this and use Linux to get your data off the hard drive to an external hard drive. I fix and repair computers all the time and a Linux LiveCD is one of the tools I use several times to get data off a hard drive. I also use Anti Virus LiveCDs because it takes the computer out of the operating system that is on the hard drive.
It is possible that reformatting the hard drive and installing Windows on a Clean hard drive will eliminate the errors you are getting. Is your 303 error coming from Smart Drive being enabled in BIOS.

Back it up as an external hard drive, but if the hard drive is broken and non functional it won't work.
