Having twins in your family does increase your chances. My husband and I have no twins in our family and yet without fertility drugs, had twins after 2 single pregnancies. Other things that increase the chance of twins: being over 30, getting pregnant the same month you go off of the pill (both of these played factors in my ending up with twins.)
