Can I make payments to a lawsuit thatI just received?

so about 10 months back, I got into a fender bender with my parents car. bad part is, a week prior I.was no longer covered under their insurance (I think) today I received a notice thatI am being sued for 9,000. by the insurance co.

I for any reason I lose (or can't afford a lawyer) can I.arrange some sort of payment plan?

I really can't afford this.

I moved out of parents place a month before the accident (I got married) and now reside in a small apt. and commute via bus

    Here's how it typically goes:

If you lose in court and are required to pay the $9,000, you pay what you can.

If the insurance company doesn't like it, they can go back to court and get a judgment which allows them to seize your bank account or other assets. If you have no assets, they may ask the court to garnish your wages. A judge will decide how much you can pay out of each paycheck.

So eventually, if you can't pay all at once, AND the insurance company goes back to court to get a judgment, a payment plan will be set up by the court. It will be a long time before things get to that point.

Your lawyer will be able to go over all the possible scenarios.
