Clarification on wide angle Convertors for Cameras, which,a 0.5x or .4x will give a wider FoV?

As in which will make the Focal length smaller, a .5x will make a 100mm lens into 50mm but does a 0.4x make a 100mm into 40mm or 60mm (as we r in regression/negative values, so is 0.4, will be 1-0.4=0.6 )?

You are over thinking it. You simply multiply the converter factor by your lens focal length. 100 x .4 = 40mm.

    They are multiplyers; 100x0.5=50, 100x0.4=40
