do you HAVE to have teller experience to become a personal banker?

I have no teller experience but I am applying for a Personal Banker position for a credit union (I didn't pass the pre-assessment with Chase). I know it's preferred to have teller experience but I am a strong salesman with years experience in customer service and cash handling, I am a fast learner, and I have a strong will to do all that is expected of me.

I would say yes. Because a lot of personal bankers started out as tellers. Of course there's those who probably didn't start out as tellers and got the job because they have major degrees in accounting or business or something like that.

Honestly, it's up to the HR department if they want to hire you based upon your experience with sales. I've seen people get hired in a seemingly high titled job with little to no experience or a certain characteristic that the company was looking for.

Personal bankers aren't all about sales though. You have to know how to be...well....be personable with people and offer them advice if or when they need it.

If you have a strong will and you are a fast learner, if they invite you for an interview, I would definitely push those and your other experience and make these your key points.

    Good luck chuck!

you are able to truly flow up from a teller place to a private banker (which incredibly does not recommend too a lot). Take some extra company training so as which you will incredibly paintings your self as much as regulate a branch or something alongside those lines. own Banker should not be your purely actual objective (nonetheless a solid job, yet you're able to shoot greater off the bat), you are able to surely be extra stronger than that. branch supervisor could be a stretch and not using a 4 year degree, yet that could desire to be a objective if going into banking.
