Major in Industrial Engineering or Statistics?

I'm a high school student who is considering between two majors for college:

Industrial Engineering or Statistics.

My favorite subjects are math, english, and history.

Anyways, my parents are basically forcing me into engineering, as they think I'm that smart. I'm not the smartest person in my class, as there are amazing intellects in my class who aspire to be in the medical or engineering field. They are rather advanced.

I watched many videos and read job descriptions of industrial engineers and honestly, it doesn't seem too exciting or something I would be good at.

So, I noticed that statistics utilizes the subjects I am interested in... But I don't want my parents to view me as a disappointment / failure. My dad [he's a doctor] insists that the only good stable jobs are in engineering and to a lesser extent, the medical field. Apparently, the only way to make a very good salary in business is by going to a top school.

What jobs can an undergraduate statistics major get?

Which major gets a better salary?

I plan to get an MBA after some work experience with either major; with a concentration in perhaps operations management, logistics, or something else.

Please help! I'm very stressed about this... It hasn't left my mind.

Thanks.

Do what you love and don't let your parents force you otherwise, it will become painful if you submit to your parent's wishes.

    >> the only good stable jobs are in engineering ...

    That's ridiculous.

The number one ranked job in the US right now is actuary. There are careers in many fields for statistics majors. Do some research on careers and show your parents.
