Should Tamerlan Tsarnaev have been arrested because he was a known terrorist?

His name was in two US terrorist databases. The Terrorist Identities Datamart Environment (Tide) has nearly 750,000 names. I don't recall the name of the other one, but it is also large. Smaller databases also exist; these are the broad-brush lists.

Where do we draw the line between freedom and security? Should we round up everyone in those databases because there is a risk they might perpetrate a terrorist action? Should the Obama administration be criticized for not doing that?

The problem is that Tamerlan was NOT a known terrorist, he only had terrorist ties. Because of our freedom, we cannot arrest someone who might not believe in the same things I do. Sadly, he had to cross the line and kill/hurt people before he became a "known" terrorist.

So if they put your name on the list by accident. Should they arrest you.

The reason we don't arrest everyone is because we don't have any proof.

This if the first terrorist act that has been done by the 2 individuals.

We had no proof that they were working with any terrorist organization.

He wasnt a "know terrorist" as you assert..he was "suspicious" which got him on the "watchlist"

thats the problem with you conservatives...You assume if you call someone a terrorist its true..for example..none of the "terrorists" in Gitmo are actual terrorists..they've just been accused

DEATH WALKING TERROR has it right...in this country you can't arrest someone unless they're suspected of or have committed some crime. At the time of the Boston bombings, Tamerlan hadn't committed any known crimes.

At the same time, though, I do approve of deporting all suspected terrorists.

Remember the phrase: "Innocent until proven guilty."

You can't just arrest some guy just because he *might* commit an act of terror. You need proof first.

He should have been deported along with the rest of the family.

Of course, but apparantly he was on a list of preferred guests.
