How to repair alcohol stain on wood work?
I picked up a little old wooden box and it appears to have a large stain on the surface I can presume perfume or some kind of alcohol based product caused the stain, what are some ways I can cover it up? I'm willing to restain and refinish the entire piece.
The stain is dark almost black, I've determined the box is a natural yellow maple, it's yellow and unfinished on the inside. I love natural finishes, and I was easily able to strip off the old stain in about 3 seconds with my sandblaster, however, the darkened wood remains as a large dark splotch. Wood rot?

Try buffing the stain out with a good furniture wax. Because white rings are usually water trapped close to the surface, this is a good first step. Rub only with the grain. If that doesn’t work, proceed to the next step.
2
Wipe the area with denatured alcohol or mineral spirits. Give the alcohol a few minutes to soak into the old wax. Remove the alcohol or mineral spirits with another cloth. If the stain disappears, wax the wood again to protect it. If not, go to the next step.
3
Mix a gentle abrasive made from cold cigarette ashes and a few drops of mineral oil. Rub this mixture with the grain of the wood to remove the stain. Wipe the area clean. If the stain disappears, wax the furniture piece. If not, try the next step.
4
Consider refinishing the piece of wood at this point. You may have to bleach the bare wood to remove the stain.

There is NO SUCH THING as an alcohol stain. If alcohol spilled on the box, it evaporated COMPLETELY. What it may have done was damaged part of the existing finish. If you removed the old finish, and there is still a stain, it is NOT related to alcohol. More than likely whatever it is can't be removed.
