IT is the story of Ahasuerus, king of Persia, whose disobedient wife Vashti is replaced by the Jewess Esther, cousin of Mordecai. Haman plots the death of Mordecai and all the Jews, but Esther hosts a banquet and invites the king and Haman. The king unable to sleep remembers Mordecai saved his life and has not been rewarded. The king asks Haman how to honor, thinking it is for himself he makes a lot of suggestions, he is very angry when he realises it is not for him. Esther reveals the plot and Haman is hung on his own stake, while Mordecai is advanced to be prime minister and the Jews are delivered.

NO, the best is to read the book. Esther marries the king. then is able to stop a plot by haman to kill all the Jews. Esther is a Jewess. now Haman is hung on the gallows he made to hang some of the Jews. that is probably what you are thinking of.Esther doesnt ask the king that just to let the Jews fight back,

No. Here are some highlights:
Haman conspires to have the Jews exterminated, but the tables are turned
Haman the Agagite is exalted by the king above all the other princes, but Mordecai, Eshter's cousin, refuses to bow to him (3:1-4)
Enraged over Mordecai’s refusal, Haman schemes to annihilate all the Jews in the empire; the king is induced to agree, the date is set, and the decree is issued (3:5-15)
Mordecai instructs Esther to appeal personally to the king, though her life may be endangered by appearing before him uninvited (4:1-17)
Esther is received favorably by the king; she invites the king and Haman to a banquet; then she requests that they return for another banquet the next day (5:1-8)
Haman’s joy is marred, however, because Mordecai again refuses to bow to him, so Haman puts up a very tall stake and plans to urge the king to hang Mordecai on it before the banquet the next day (5:9-14)
That night, when the king is sleepless, he has records read to him, and he learns that Mordecai has not been rewarded for reporting a scheme to assassinate the king; when Haman arrives in the morning, the king asks him what should be done to honor a man in whom the king takes delight; thinking he is the man, Haman offers lavish suggestions; then Haman himself is commanded to confer that honor publicly on Mordecai (6:1-13; 2:21-23)
At the banquet that day, Esther makes known to the king that Haman has sold her and her people to be destroyed; furious, the king orders Haman to be hung on the stake he put up for Mordecai (6:14–7:10)

I found some web link that refers to the book of "Judith", - whatever that might be.
She has someone killed.
Edit:
Another link
Judith is a wealthy and beautiful young widow living in a hilltop town called Bethuliah. During a siege of her town, she undertakes a daring and sexually ambiguous mission to save her people from annihilation. She kills the general of the enemy forces by hacking off his head as he lies in a drunken stupor. Her story is a variant on the David and Goliath story, where a seemingly weak person overcomes a person of superior strength by calling on God's help and using cunning and intelligence.
The Book of Judith was never intended as factual history - it is more like fiction with a theological message. Supposedly set in 587BC it was in fact written much later, and many of the details in the story are incorrect - for example, Nebuchadnezzar was a Babylonian, but the story presents him as ruler of the Assyrians.

No. He finds out about a plot to kill all the Jews by the kings assistant. He then asks Esther to see if she can tell the king about the plot. She manages to tell the king, then the king has him killed.
