Severus Snape should have been Harry Potter's father?
I didn't realize until I watched deathly hallows recently that Lily chose Snape's bully instead of Snape when actually he was the one who truly cared for her and James was just shallow, superficial show off that everyone said he is a hero when actually he was a bad man/ boy who bullied everyone.
I am not angry at James though, I am angry at Lily, why on earth would she do that? I am a girl and if I was in that position where there is a guy who truly loves me and is a good man but very unpopular vs a guy who is just so popular, I would definitely chose the unpopular guy because he is my true love. Oh my goodness.
So when Snape says to Harry, " your father was a swine" he was right? At that time Harry didn't know but in Deathly hallows he found out so why didn't he start loving Snape like his father?

I'm a Snape fan and anti-bully girl myself. The films especially paint Potter poorly. Like you said, James was the popular guy and Severus the unpopular guy. The only thing I can figure is that James showed his best qualities to Lily and probably was extra hard on Snape because of how he was bffs with the girl he had a crush on.
When Snape called Potter "swine", it was true from Snape's view. After Harry found out the truth about Snape he definitely did some reflecting on his whole world-view on Snape. Snape was lumped with Albus in Harry's mind, and I guess they could both be regarded as father-figures to Harry.

Yes Snape should have been his father and yes his dad was a swine at the school times but everyone changes if James was so terrible as you describe then he wouldn't have given his life for Harry While fighting Voldemort. Snape never managed to tell Lily that he loved her. I understand that you would do the opposite but typing stuff on the net is way easy than facing reality. If a guy likes you and doesn't tell how will you know??

At the time, Lily was just 16 years old. So, if your best friend called you a bad name at the age of 16, when he was also hanging out with other people who called people like you that name, you would get pretty angry too. Also, Lily and James didn't start going out until their 7th year (when James "matured" (in front of Lily only) and was head boy). In the fifth book, James was bullying Snape and Snape lashed out at Lily, in a moment of humilation, and called her a mudblood. At the time, Lily didn't realize that her best friend loved her and it is possible that she never found out because when she didn't forgive him, he turned even more into the dark arts, making him appear worse then he did when they were friends.
It didn't appear in the movie. It was in the memory that Harry witnessed in the movie, but it didn't appear. There is a version of the scene online, but the scene only includes him calling her mudblood and not James bullying Snape. So, it was better to show James as a bully then to show Snape as the only one to insult his friend. This memory was for Harry to see James as not just being the man who sacrificed himself for his wife and son, but also the bully that he was to Snape because Snape loved Lily (which James suspected).
However, I enjoy reading fanfictions about Snape being Harry's father, since it means that Harry has a father who is alive, well, and in most cases, able and willing to raise him. Also, when Harry found out that Snape was telling the truth about Snape, Snape was already dead, so he couldn't have a good relationship with a dead person. Also, when Harry witnessed James bullying Snape, he also saw Snape call his mother a mudblood, which wouldn't influence a good conversation starter and Snape didn't seem in the mood to talk about his worst memory with his enemy's son when he dragged him out of his memory.

lily/severus were friends from before hogwarts...but they got seperated into different houses & sort of drifted apart.
i truly believe james/lily loved each other as well...but they were of the same house & had more time together. no she didnt go to him for popularity. lily was already popular on her own....dont forget she didnt even like jim at first...only later.
that said...i dont like either james or lily after reading that last book. the reason why lily left severus for good was due to an altercation. he called her mudblood. she didnt like that...neither did james. but things james did against severus all the time i didnt like. he was worse then remus or even peter...sirius was in between. as for lily...severus apologised later...she did not forgive him. i found that one out of character really.
my fav marauder will always be remus...then sirius. peter was a good kid...horrible man.

His father made mistakes, a lot of people make mistakes.
Why would harry suddenly feel like a son to a guy that has treated him and all his friends like trash the entire time he knew him? Usully when people tell me my parents are swine, I don't suddenly feel closer to them.
