Only if you are already a person who categorizes people and distrust certain groups. People tend to watch and/listen to shows/pundits who spew the nonsense that they already believe.

According to TV children are smarter than parents, most people cheat, very few marriages are happy and there a lot more gay people out there than would be realistic by our population. TV is not reality not even most of the news.

It can. Stereotypes are based on beliefs and experiences. These can come just as easily from tv as they can from personal experience.
