2000 lincoln ls v8 rear lighting modual question?

I have a 2000 Lincoln ls v8 and I heard that If i would to replace the rear lighting modual I would have to get it flashed to my car.. is this true? ? What would happen if I picked one up and just pluged it in ?? Need an answer ASAP I live in dumb *** Hawaii were you have to get a safety checks instead of smog to get it all legal to drive

    Yes it's true this module is configured for the vehicle that it's installed into, this means you will not be able to grab one and put it in, the data from the original needs to be uploaded prior to removing the module and then it is downloaded into the replacement module, however 2000 Lincoln LS does not have a lighting control module, the lighting functions are controlled by several modules that communicate with each other over the SCP network. These modules include the instrument cluster, front electronic module, rear electronic module, daytime running lamp module and the drivers door module. Considering your taillights are out I am assuming that the dealer determined that the REM (rear electronic module) is bad, this module is located in the trunk. Remove the carpet lining on the passenger side of the trunk, the module is bolted inside the quarter panel. Other then a Ford or Lincoln dealer I doubt you will be able to find anyone that has the equipment to program the new module, sorry.
