Best way to keep a laptop battery last longer?
So I know factors like screen brightness, how many programs are open, watching videos or playing games can affect the battery of a laptop. So what is the best way out there that can make a battery last longer? Also, since I don't use my battery much, what I need to know when storing a battery without using it for a long period of time? I hear people said you need to use it at least once a month. And lastly, when should I charge my battery? When it's completely out? 10% full?
If you want, you can provide a source of these information so I can read about them. Thank you.

Hi,
You may follow the steps mentioned below which will help you to extend the battery life of the laptop:
1. Charge the battery by keeping it plugged in for 12 hours before you unplug.
2. Switch on the optimized battery or power feature. It is also referred to as max battery mode.
3. Turn off power-draining facilities like backlights to preserve quite a bit of battery life.
4. Check to see if your laptop has the optimum amount of RAM. RAM enables your system to run program instructions using the computer's memory instead of its hard disk drive
5. Remove the battery and clean the metal contacts ideally every two months, to ensure that the power transfer between the laptop and its battery is as efficient as possible.
6. Unplug any laptop accessories you aren't using.
7. Defragment the hard drive so your system operates as efficiently as possible.

Hope this helps.

You don't have to charge it monthly at all. It can sit up to 5 years without any sign of damage. Its is although healthy to let your computer run out of battery (0%-discharge it completely) once in a while, like every 1-2 weeks. This will make your battery more resistant and its lifetime will be longer. Also don't forget to click on the battery icon in the corner of the screen and select the power saver scheme. If your laptop charge indicates 100%, let it run plugged in for a couple of minutes before plugging it out. This way the percentage of the battery will decrease slower. The white color on the screen uses the most energy, so no fancy screen savers! Remove any not needed USB devices, turn off your speakers or if you don't use it turn off your WiFi. This will preserve another couple of minutes. Don't let your laptop get hot by blocking the heat vents, because then the more the fan has to spin and faster - the more battery will be wasted very quickly. I hope I provided some interesting info for you!

From what I know, the best way to make laptop battery last long is to go to your power options, which can be found by clicking your power icon in the bottom right hand corner of the screen, and switching it to "Power Saver" or "Battery Saving" mode. Make sure your screen brightness is on the lowest possible.
NOTE: If you're watching videos or playing games, keeping it on Power Saver or Battery Saving mode might make it lag or play in low quality.
I usually charge my battery around 5-10%, and leave it charging until it reaches 99-100%, then I unplug it and let it drain back down to 5-10% again. Using these tactics have kept my current laptop able to last up to 4 hours without a charge as long as I wasn't watching movies or playing games.
Lastly, usually if you leave a laptop fully charged for an extended period, such as a month or two, it'll slowly drain and you'll have to charge it back up to 100% again.
**Using these tactics for netbooks specifically can keep them running for almost six hours if the battery works well. Using them on notebooks can keep them running for about three to four hours.

Tips: -Discharge the battery to 2-3% once in a week then recharge it. -Don't plug it whole day on power supply Or keep it plugged in but remove the battery. Suggestions: After using Laptop continuously for more than 4 hours, give a rest of few minutes. This extents the life of your processor and prevent it from over heating.

What I do for my laptop is I charge my battery fully. Then I take it out until I need it and keep the power cord plugged in instead.
