Gay marriage supporters, what do you think of this?
Why don't we make it so that marriage stays between a man and a woman, but have another form of union between two of the same gender that grants equal status under the law? It seems like it would solve a lot of problems, like the fear of some that gay marriage will undermine traditional marriage, while at the same time granting them what they want, that is equal rights under the law?

That is the definition of "separate but equal." Extending Brown v. Board of Education would be a piece of cake - you separate institutions for citizens, providing them "equal" rights, but the mere separation is a continuation of a stigma, a social distinction that inherently relegates one group to the status of second-class citizens.
My proposal for the whole thing is simple: get rid of DOMA, allow states to choose either by legislative act or by referendum to allow same sex marriage or deny it, provided they recognize marriages performed in other states as required by the full faith and credit clause, and get rid of "marriage" as a secular institution entirely. Any "marriage" as a legal status would be a "civil union," irrespective of the genders of the people involved. It would entail the same rights and privileges a marriage ordinarily conveys - spousal privilege, rights of survivorship, widow(er)'s shares of intestate and testate estates, and so on. "Marriage" would be an exclusively religious ceremony, and churches, synagogues, temples, etc. would continue to have the ability to choose who they would or would not perform a marriage for. No problem of separate but equal, equal rights are given to both same and opposite-sex spouses, and churches can still follow their views on homosexual relationships. It isn't perfect, but it does hit something of a middle ground on the issue.

Oh, I see what you are saying, like having two certificates of marriage, right? One that says "Certificate of Marriage Between a Man and a Woman" and another one that says "Certificate of Marriage Between Two Persons of the Same Sex". But it sounds so redundant. The document should only say "Certificate of Marriage" and be done with.

They've already made clear they are NOT interested in exactly identical legal status. The CORE goal of "gay marriage supporters" is to use FORCE of law to COMPEL people to STOP using language that acknowledges man and woman are two different things.
In as much as literally ALL non-retarded adults find it mind-bogglingly obvious that no separation" applies, we likewise find it just as obvious that "Felonious" KNOWS he CANNOT come-up with an HONEST argument.

it extremely is real that just about all anti-gay human beings, like Ted Haggard and the airport adult males's room Republican congressman, are extremely closeted homosexuals struggling with against inner demons, yet no you may accuse those hypocrites of being happy or "gay".
