Question on 19D Cavalry Scout?

This will probably seem like a stupid question, but I'm interested in doing mechanized patrols in Humvees, Strykers, etc. Is 19D a good MOS for this?

Update:

I'm in ROTC doing the Simultaneous Membership Program with the Army National Guard.

    If you do SMP you will be a 09S (Officer Cadet)...you will not hold the 19D MOS
