How does Hulu Plus compare to Netflix?

I have both Netflix and Hulu+ because I think they complement each other well, but I prefer Netflix. The primary differences are focus, selection, stream quality and availability. Hulu is focused on new TV content and art house films. Netflix is focused on having a deep TV catalog and a broad selection of movies. Right now Netflix has 8,831 movies, while Hulu has under 1,000. Hulu has more TV shows available but Netflix has higher total episode count of the shows in common. For me the two most important factors that make Netflix a better choice are the higher stream quality and content availability on devices. Netflix's best generally available stream of 3.8 Mbps is better than Hulu's 3.2 Mbps. Netflix has an even higher stream available but you must be with one of a select few ISPs to get it. Every Netflix streaming title is available to every Netflix device. A significant portion of Hulu's content is still only available to view via the website. That is very annoying.

In the summer months i suspect Hulu plus wont be as good because the shows they have updated daily will be on hiatus

If you want to avoid cable while still getting good quality TV, get a roku, good antenna, & keep netflix. Roku lets you add alot of free content like crackle which is like huluplus and plenty of free movie channels that feature horror, classics, live streaming etc

Hulu Plus concentrates on TV shows, and in particular, new episodes of TV shows. There is a movies section, but it is not very comprehensive, nor contains a lot of new content. Here's a good place to start if you want to find out what's on Hulu Plus:

Netflix mostly concentrates on older content and movies, but they do have a good library of classic TV shows as well. It does not however have a lot of new TV episodes (one season old is the best you'll get), although there are now some exclusive original programming TV shows (House of Cards, Hemlock Grove, new season of Arrested Development). It's a bit harder searching for Netflix content, but I found this website very useful:

I might be cautious of watching dubbed anime. Some of it's extraordinary(Black Lagoon, Code Geass, Haruhi, Ghost within the Shell), but most of it is beautiful terrible appearing first-class. Plus one of the crucial older dubs have edited the sequence closely. Cardcaptors for instance quite often rearranged the entire plot to make a assisting personality the co-lead through inventive editing. But Netflix is better than Hulu for often everything.

hulu = tv shows

Netflix = tv shows (not as many seasons per show) and SOME instant movies. (most instant stream videos are really bad, there are SOME good ones though.)
