How much money for a gap year?

I'm from Australia and I'm planning on going around Europe (England, Germany, Norway, Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland, Spain), a few Asian countries and maybe America if I have enough money (any recommendations of countries?)

I'm only 15 but my friend and I are saving up already :)

I have $2000 Australia dollars (I know I need a lot more) but I'm wondering how much is a good amount?

I'd love to hear your stories!

Thanks in advance

I'm Irish and we recommend to visitors that they would budget for €100 a day, to include hotels, meals and other expenses. If you are planning to stay in backpackers, you could budget for a little less, but saying €100 per day leaves you with some wiggle room. That would be airfares plus €36,500 (currently about $AUD46,671 at today's exchange rates). My son has just returned from a week visiting different countries in Europe, and he reckoned it cost €1000 including airfares - and recommends that when you arrive, get buses to everywhere else in mainland Europe, as the cheapest form of travel.
