Why do the majority of Protestants not believe in eternal life?

Do Protestants actually think that heaven is a grave yard and not for the living?? I get some really weird answers by Protestants regarding the dead. Do you not believe that heaven is for the living? Do you think our souls die at death? Do you not worship the living God? If you believe that heaven is for the living then why do you say that those in heaven are dead?

Update:

The Bible directs us to invoke those in heaven and ask them to pray with us.

Thus in Psalm 103, we pray, "Bless the Lord, O you his angels, you mighty ones who do his word, hearkening to the voice of his word! Bless the Lord, all his hosts, his ministers that do his will!" (Ps. 103:20-21). And in Psalm 148 we pray, "Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord from the heavens, praise him in the heights! Praise him, all his angels, praise him, all his host!" (Ps. 148:1-2)

Not only do those in heaven pray with us, they also pray for us. In Revelation, John sees that "the twenty-four elders [the leaders of the people of God in heaven] fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and with golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints" (Rev. 5:8). Thus the saints in heaven offer to God the prayers of the saints on earth.

Angels do the same thing: "[An] angel came and stood at the altar [in heaven] with a golden censer; and he was given much

I've been wondering about this myself. I think I asked a question about it a while back. They claim to but then they ask why we pray to "dead people" and tell us that they can't hear us because they're dead?! How they don't see a contradiction is beyond me.

And then you get answers like: We do believe in heaven but the saints can't hear us. Huh?! Either life simply changes and we live in heaven or it doesn't. It can't be both. Just because they think that praying to the saints doesn't do us any good, doesn't mean that they can't hear us. Perhaps ministers need to get their stories straight.

Well keep in mind the area you live in doesn't speak for everyone. Remember what they said about Jesus "And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears" (Isiah 11:3) Just because you heard something from some of a group and saw how some of a group act doesn't mean all of a named group acts that way.

This is the first I've even heard this suggestion.

The idea (in the Bible, but, figured out at the Catholic seminary I attended (although I am not Catholic) is that we are offered the gift of life, through God's grace. If we accept it, we live forever - in Heaven. If we reject this gift, either consciously, or through our actions, we die, body, and soul. That is what Hell is - not a place, but, death, and the dead are nothing.

Many Protestants have the idea of Hell as a place of eternal torture, but, this would also mean everlasting life (although it would suck), and life is the gift from God.

So, yes, Heaven is for the living - the soul lives on, but, only in Heaven, with the living God. The alternative is death - of the soul too.

Actually, I believe Protestants believe that all who were faithful Christians and who have died are dead for now but at the "resurrection" they will rise again. But they do not understand the concept of life or "reality" outside of our understanding [here on earth] of time and space. Heaven is not subject to it. Even Jesus Christ said to the good thief: "today you will be in paradise with me"!!! Here is not dead, he is alive in Christ Jesus!

I don't know which Protestants you are talking about. It certainly isn't me. I have an idea who maybe. She doesn't represent the majority of us. I have all kinds of information on life after death on my website. There is also this Scripture which many seem to ignore.

Luk 16:19 There was a certain rich man who was customarily clothed in purple and fine linen and making merry in luxury every day.

Luk 16:20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, who was laid at his gate, full of sores

Luk 16:21 and desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table. But even the dogs came and licked his sores.

Luk 16:22 And it happened that the beggar died and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom. The rich one also died and was buried.

Luk 16:23 And in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

Luk 16:24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus so that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am tormented in this flame.

Luk 16:25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things. But now he is comforted and you are tormented.

Luk 16:26 And besides all this, there is a great chasm fixed between you and us; so that they desiring to pass from here to you cannot, nor can they pass over to us from there.

Luk 16:27 And he said, I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father's house,

Luk 16:28 for I have five brothers, so that he may testify to them, lest they also come into this place of torment.

Luk 16:29 Abraham said to him, They have Moses and the Prophets, let them hear them.

Luk 16:30 And he said, No, father Abraham, but if one should go to them from the dead, they would repent.

Luk 16:31 And he said to him, If they do not hear Moses and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded, even though one rose from the dead.

Just as you believe the lies of the men in the Roman Catholic Church above the Bible so you also believe any foolish thing you read.

Ever heard of the straw man argument?

Or that people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones?

You portray the RCC as a wicked cult because you draw a division between Roman Catholics and all others who are supposedly Protestants.

The truth is only in Jesus Christ and not in Protestants or any other, and certainly not the RCC which is in flagrant contradiction to the Bible and seeks to usurp and replace Jesus Christ with itself.

That makes it a wicked cult, such as you describe by implication in your question.

Protestants do believe in eternal life.

They don't believe that the saints in heaven can hear your prayers, though.

There is no point in praying to saints. God is all you need...

The condition of the dead during the intermediate state is a matter of conjecture, neighbor, as the Bible gives no specifics about it. To look down on someone else's view because it doesn't match your own would be beneath us as Christ followers.
