Is there a way to force my mom to give me my money?

When I was like 12, I wanted a bank account. My mom told me that I wasn't allowed to get one legally and I had to get it under her account. At the time I didn't know any better and consented. Over the years I had built up a sizable amount of money from working at a factory, none of the money was an allowance or anything else she gave me, I earned all of it. I reached 1000 dollars but then she took it all, claiming it was to pay for the mortgage(she rescinded the claim later),she said she would pay it back but has been dragging her feet and hasn't even payed back half yet. You can understand I was feeling uncomfortable with depositing my money in there and have kept all my cash in my room. When she opened the account for me she said I could "withdraw it at any time" now of course she isn't letting me withdraw any at all. I still have 500 dollars locked up in the account, Is there some way I can make her give me the money, like calling the bank or something?

Update:

Im still 15 but I'll turn 16 soon

If you are now 18 years old then you go to that bank and open your own separate account (in your name only). Then you ask them to withdraw money from the joint account that you have with your mother, in cash and deposit that money back into your new account that your mother can not touch.

Chances are slim that any money is left in the joint account. So take it as a lesson and in the future deposit your money into your new account only.

Leave it in your room... and sooner or later somebody is going to find it.

You can leave the old joint account with a couple of dollars in it. Just as your mother had the right to withdraw money from it... so do you now when you turn 18.

Unfortunately money that is earned before the age of 18 can be legally used by parents. If you have your social security number, you should be able to get an account at a bank on your own.

There is no way you can force her to give you the money, but you can make sure you don't put more in the account.
