It's all relative.To some extent it is fair, but I think that has been a debate since centuries.
Personally I believe that the needs of the many trump the needs of the few, at the risk of sounding too much like a star trek fan. So maybe everything is fair in war and not love, if your love is limited to one person. If we go by the saying of needs of many being greater, then clearly it is valid in the context of wars! . But now we'll get into the argument that wars are brutal and monstrous and must not occur!
So we may infer, that no, everything is not fairi n love and in war, strictly speaking in terms of morality and logic.
