Why do some object reflect a specific color?

Hello there, why do some object reflect a specific color? For example, oceans look blue because they absorb blue wavelengths the least and it is reflect back to us. Why can't the ocean reflect purple wavelengths instead?

Update:

Does the arrangement of atoms have something to do with what colors it absorbs and what it reflects?

They aren't purple because they absorb purple wavelengths. FYI: oceans are blue because they absorb every wavelength EXCEPT blue
