Calculating deviation from mean in parts per thousand - Significant figures?

The question is to calculate the deviation from a mean in parts per thousand. I am having troubles with how many sig figs would this be:

[ | 0.1068 - 0.1055 | / .1068 ] x 1000

im thinking it should be 4 sig figs since both the 0.1068 and 0.1055 are 4sigfigs.

would the answer be 12.17 ppt?

because you have both add/sub AND mult/div in the same equation and because the process for determining sig figs is different for those two , you have to do this in steps

    | 0.1068 - 0.1055 | = 0.0013... (2 sig figs)

    then..

    (0.0013 / 0.1068 = 0.012... 2 sig figs !

then since that is parts per part

    (0.012 parts / 1 part) x (1000 / 1000) = 12 parts / thousand parts = 12 ppt... 2 sig figs!!!
